About our Curriculum

About our CurriculumThe curriculum is designed for parents and educators who recognize that their children are a gift from God. Therefore, it is their solemn, God-given responsibility to educate their children with a program that meets their physical, social, and spiritual needs.

Basic Christian Education utilizes the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum which is an individualized, Bible-based curriculum for elementary and secondary levels (K-12). It was developed on the premise that every child is uniquely created by God with distinct abilities and for a definite purpose.

The curriculum is built upon a Scope and Sequence that consists of major subjects generally covered in most state and local school systems. It incorporates basic skills, learning principles, and academic concepts. It also integrates character-building lessons into the academic content. The Core Curriculum includes six major academic disciplines:

Mathematics
English
Social Studies
Science
Word Building (spelling, penmanship, & vocabulary skills)
Literature and Creative Writing

Science Pace Example The Expanded Curriculum includes two academic disciplines:

Animal Science (available for grades 1 and 2)
Bible Reading (available for grades 1-4)

Diagnostic Testing and Placement

A student's academic needs must be diagnosed before proper curriculum can be prescribed. Diagnostic placement testing assures that students begin at the exact point of their academic needs. Test results make it possible to determine the student's academic performance level for proper curriculum placement enabling the student to work with confidence and experience the reward of achievement. He can continue to progress at his own speed with proper controls and motivation. Proper academic diagnosis and prescription is vital to a student's success.

Self-Instructional

Math Pace Example PACEs contain sufficient instruction so that students can work with minimal assistance at their own ability and speed. Each subject level is divided into twelve achievable units called PACE's. The PACE is a self-contained, self-instructional unit of academic work. It is equivalent to a textbook divided into twelve bite-sized, achievable worktexts.

Each PACE has:
well-defined goals (the concepts they will learn)
a character trait that will be taught as they work through the PACE (Example: honesty)
a Scripture verse to memorize
Vocabulary Words - words that may be new are introduced and defined at the beginning of the PACE.

The individualized curriculum has been carefully compiled to introduce children to concrete and abstract reasoning skills at appropriate age levels. It was developed with vocabulary that spirals from simple to complex, from concrete to abstract. New concepts are presented five to seven times to assure mastery.

Self-Contained

Science Pace Example Each PACE contains the textual information the child is to read, study, and learn along with the study activities he needs to complete. Explanations, examples, and drill are contained in the skill subjects, sufficient even for underachievers. A combination of information, examples, illustrations, activities, drill, reviews, & tests provide a maximum of learning and achievement.

Continuous-Progress

Subject grade level content was written for related grade levels. The content progresses from skill to skill (in sequence) and from grade level to grade level in a spiral of learning. Each skill is learned, reviewed, & expanded to attain the broadest scope of mastery.
